Rutherford LEAP Adds MTSU Professor To Board Of Directors
Rutherford LEAP has announced the addition of H. Willis Means, Ed.D. to its board of directors. Director Sara Brody said, "LEAP is thrilled that Dr. Means has joined our board.
"With his expertise in education, Dr. Means will enhance the collaborative work that LEAP and the Rutherford County school system are doing together to create a one-to-one laptop program for the students in Rutherford County schools."
Means is an Associate Professor in Middle Tennessee State University’s Elementary and Special Education Department. Prior to his arrival at MTSU in 1996, he served ten years as an inner-city middle school teacher in the Cincinnati Public Schools, as well as in college and university appointments in Indiana, Louisiana, and Texas.
Dr. Means holds a B.A. in History and Elementary Education from David Lipscomb University, an M.Ed. in Middle School Education with an emphasis in Reading from the University of Cincinnati, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Evansville, and an Ed.D. in Instructional Design Technology from Texas Tech University with support areas in Philosophy and Expert Systems.
According to Dr. Means, “Technology is changing the way our students learn, how they interact with information and each other, and how they are taught.” He has designed, and regularly offers, online courses for his department in instructional technology, research, and classroom assessment. He also teaches in the Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning graduate program for Regent University’s online degree program.
Means co-authored an introduction to computing textbook, has contributed a textbook chapter on reflective teaching, and regularly presents at regional and national conferences on instructional technology. His current interests lie in the areas of innovative uses of existing technologies as instructional tools, the social and cultural impact of technology on instruction, and the cultivation of online professional development opportunities for teachers.
Rutherford LEAP was created with the vision of providing each student in Rutherford County with a laptop computer for daily use in the classroom, in order to help students acquire the technological skills necessary for their successful futures.
